A starlit winter’s evening with a full moon shining down upon a quaint New England village with lots of snow and a stray whale cruising by…..the idea of this cooled me right down (was a very hot day).  One of the benefits of designing and painting for me is that I get to escape into my own little world. I don’t always know where I am going but the journey is always fun and rewarding.

I was inspired to design these ornaments after hearing one of the songs from the Sound of Music, My Favorite Things, written by Richard Rodgers.   I decided to use the star cut out shapes as they are readily available and usually very low cost.  The front and back of each star is painted and stenciled which is a feature I really like – an extra step, but really nice!

I have always loved lambs/sheep and when designing Christmas tree ornaments, the first thing I thought of was how do I incorporate sheep into the designs.  This is what I came up with.

Is this the cutest ornament ever or what?  The snowie is doing something I am sure everyone who has ever experienced snow has tried... to catch a snowflake on their tongue!  I saw them and had to make them.  Each ornament is sculpted out of air dry clay, painted, sealed, glittered with snow to within an inch of its existence and then an eye screw and ornament hanger installed.  These are designed by Nichola Battilana, a wonderful clay artist.  The ornament are shipped in a 4x4x4 inch box!  This would make such a wonderful gift for someone who collects ornaments, for anyone who loves snow and snowy items or anyone who likes to smile.

I originally made a swirled soap loaf that I loved everything about it except that one of the swirl colors was way too dark and thick and I was not liking it so much.  So, I decided to remake the soap using ground up pieces of this loaf added to another batch of soap base and I am so much happier with the way this soap loaf turned out. 

The scent I used for this is Frosted Fir which is, you might think, very wintery and fresh like walking through a fir tree forest, and you would be correct!  The soap base is white with small pieces of three colors of green throughout.  After using this soap, your hands smell so good!  

The soap is made of rebatched soap (as described above), coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, Frosted Fir fragrance oil, titanium dioxide, Micas for color agents (green, light green and dark green) and of course, lots of love!.

Estimated weight of the soap bar is 4.5 ounces.

I just received a new mica colorant, called Ectoplasm, and I just love it and could not wait to make some soap with it.  It is a rich turquoise/aqua blue.  I did not want to do just a plain soap bar but I thought a jagged pencil line near the midline would look great.  To me it would be like a finding a vein of copper or gold.  The sparkly copper mica I have was my first choice.   The pencil line looks dark in the photo but it is clearly a shiny copper line! I hope you like my choice!  I left the top of the soap really jagged.  

These bars are made with top quality ingredients. The ingredients used were olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, mica colorants used were Ectoplasm and Copper Sparkle.  The scent i used was Honey Patchouli fragrance oil and these soap bars are made with LOTS OF LOVE!

Average weight of each soap bar is 4.7 ounces.

This should come as no surprise to anyone but I love sunflowers!  I chose The Sunflower Cupboard as the name of my business and I have painted many many items with sunflowers!  Also, when I had a garden, I planted lots of sunflowers!  

I wanted to make the soap a little extra special so I created a sunflower and leaf out of soap dough which I also made.  

It is scented with Vetiver fragrance oil, which is a complex scent and just lovely!

This soap would be a wonderful gift for a gardener (novice or expert) or of course anyone who just loves sunflowers, teachers, coworkers, family members....they sky is the limit!!  

I live in an apartment now and get compliments on how nice it is to go past my door and enjoy whiffs of whatever soap I have just made and of course, my apartment always is delightfully scented!  

Oh, yes....this is definitely a bakery-inspired soap...carrot cake!  This was a fun piece to work on.  I created the carrots out of homemade soap dough (who knew there was such a thing?).  There is of course a layer of cream cheese frosting on top with a cake layer under that with little specks provided by vanilla bean powder.  The scent is Cinnamon as I always think of carrot cake as being not just yummy but a bit of a scent cinnamon as well.

Soap making has become a passion of mine, not just the many choices for scents but to expand on what soap can look like.  I do love the traditional looking soap but I do love a challenge!  I hope you do too!

Winter and Christmas Season are coming soon!  I have been working on my Winter collection and this was one piece I loved designing and making!  

I wanted a red and white swirl design but also a topical design and chose green leaves and holly berries with an extra sprinkle of snow on top.  Not only does it look great but it smells wonderful!  The swirl is both bold and wispy!  This is sure to be a great gift (or a gift for you)!  

It really is versatile and lovely soap!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Nice to know that we know where twinkle twinkle little star is...It is right here in this soap.  No really, there are little eco-friendly stars embedded on top and inside the soap!  As I mentioned, the stars are biodegradable which is so cool!  

This was a fun piece to design and hopefully you like it!  Just in time for Christmas and Winter.  

Great for a teacher gift, coworker gift, friend, stocking stuffer...and the list goes on!

The scent on this is amazing....so crisp and clean (eucalyptus and peppermint).  I decided to make this a 3 layer soap starting with a dark indigo, then a medium indigo and then a very creamy off white with a softly carved top.  It looks very stylish and the scent is memorable!  

This soap probably will not be available very long - lots of positive feedback.  Would be a wonderful stocking stuffer, coworker gift (for everyone), hostess gift...you are only limited by your imagination!  No, seriously this soap is amazing!

A wee bit early but just in case I don't have a chance to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Color-wise, this soap could be suitable for both Fall and Winter/Christmas - red/green/gold colors and to make it really special it is scented with a mix of Apple Bourbon and Kentucky bourbon scents!  The top of the bar is swirled with the above-mentioned colors and the addition of dried cranberry seeds as well!

Getting started on Fall and Holiday soaps is my happy time!  So many ideas and sometimes not enough time but I am getting there!  

We moved in April and spent a good amount of time and more setting up my "soaping area" which has ended up being stored in a nice den off the kitchen/living room and my old standby art table in the same area of the kitchen/living room.  

I am truly in my happy space now and will be creating more soap and art in the years to come!

I have been wanting to add a slice of orange to a soap for a while and it was fun to make it happen.  It is a spicy cinnamon scented soap and the two colors are wonderful.  I hand sliced and dried the orange slice on each soap.  I also added dried cranberry seeds to the top of the soap.  I really liked the look of the orange slice and may be making a key lime pie soap and add a slice of lime on top!  Stay tuned!

This would be a lovely gift for that special someone you know who loves botanicals and spicy hand soaps and Christmas is coming!
